Community Partners
Domestic violence impacts individuals and families and the communities in which they live and work. Community involvement is integral to CONNECT’s mission of preventing and eliminating domestic abuse. CONNECT created the Community Empowerment Program [link to Community Empowerment Program page] to support and facilitate community-based solutions.
Through its extensive programs, CONNECT partners with almost 200 community-based groups (CBOs), religious organizations and businesses to increase awareness of domestic violence, help survivors and develop programs to end abuse at home and in the workplace.
In an innovative collaboration, CONNECT partnered with Verizon, the Communication Workers of America (CWA) Local 1106 and Cornell University’s New York School of Industrial Labor Relations to address domestic violence, violence in the workplace and bullying. Following the murder of a woman by her batterer at one of Verizon’s worksites, Verizon developed a pilot program, “Men and Women as Allies.” In weekly sessions participants engaged in conversations about the issues that foster violence in both the workplace and at home.
