Wed, 11/04/2015 - 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Location:
127 West 127th Street Suite 432, Harlem, NY 10027

The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children

Children exposed to domestic violence  live in constant fear.  Research indicates they are at increased risk for emotional, behavioral, cognitive, academic, and social problems. A disproportionate number of children who are exposed to domestic violence are under the age of eight and are overlooked because of the common myth that they are too young to understand, be affected or won’t remember what happened anyway.

This workshop led by Flora Colao, LCSW will cover the experience of domestic violence from the perspective of the children who witness it. Participants will gain an understanding of the effect of witnessing violence as well as initial interventions that will help mitigate the negative impact.
