The course will focus on the forms, dynamics and tactics of abuse with an emphasis on the intersections between intimate partner violence & health and social justice issues affecting New York City’s communities.

Topics include: 

  • Trauma and the impact of intimate partner violence on women and children
  • Why men batter and abuse
  • The ways culture and religion shape people’s response to domestic violence
  • Immigration
  • Effects of domestic violence within LGBTQ communities
  • HIV, domestic violence and substance abuse
  • The navigation of social service and legal systems
  • Safety Planning
**Participation in each session is required for certification. Understanding Domestic Violence Essentials and Intersections is the prerequisite course for all CONNECT Training Institute courses. Materials Fee: $250 (sliding scale available, inquire upon enrollment)
